The Blue Lagoon on Akamas at a glance

This page is about the lagoon on the Akamas peninsula near Latchi, in the west of the island. It is not the same as a similarly named boat stop near Cape Greco. Most visitors reach the lagoon on a boat trip from Latchi, with a stop for swimming and snorkeling.

Two things decide how your day goes: the sea and the rules. Boats can cancel in rough water, and the rules for driving into the Akamas are stricter than many visitors expect. Both are explained below.

€25adult price on two Latchi operators' own listings (2026)
€15child price: under 12 on one operator, under 11 on the other

Trips from Paphos

Many trips are advertised as leaving from Paphos. The boat itself always leaves from Latchi. The Paphos part is a shuttle from your hotel to Latchi and back. Allow about 3 hours for the boat trip and about 6 hours for the whole excursion including transfers.

Hotel pickup

A shuttle takes you from your Paphos hotel to Latchi.

Boat trip

About 3 hours on the water, including the swim stop at the lagoon.

Return

The shuttle brings you back to Paphos. Count on about 6 hours in total.

If you base yourself in Paphos, read the Paphos guide for the mosaics, the harbour and the old town. For a longer overview of boat options, see our tours page.

Weather, booking and what to bring

The sea decides whether the boat goes.

Rough sea

Operators cancel trips in rough water. Sunshine does not guarantee a calm sea. If you drive a long way to Latchi, ask the operator about the conditions first.

Booking ahead

One operator recommends booking in advance. That is a recommendation from the operator, not a legal reservation rule for the lagoon.

What to pack

Swimwear, a towel and sun protection. Snorkeling gear is included on at least one operator's trip.

Driving in the Akamas

Treat road access to the lagoon with care. The Forest Department has published a notice of forest road closures valid from 3 July to 30 November 2026. Check which roads it covers before you drive, and do not assume that a track is open because it appears on a map.

Your rental contract matters too. At least one rental company in Cyprus excludes the Blue Lagoon and Fontana Amorosa in its terms and requires written consent for named areas. Other companies may differ, so read yours. A 4x4 or buggy does not replace that consent and does not make a track a public road. The easy option is to join a boat trip.

Drive on the left in Cyprus, and take extra time on unfamiliar roads.

Amphitheatre Bay on the Akamas Peninsula

Avakas Gorge hiking trail

The Avakas hiking trail has been closed since 6 December 2025, until further notice. The Forest Department cites higher water flow, slippery ground and a risk of falling rocks and earth. It repeated the closure on 27 April 2026. Do not assume that it has reopened.

The closure applies to the gorge trail. It does not mean the whole peninsula is closed. Roads, the gorge trail and your rental contract are three separate questions, so check each one.

Blue Lagoon Cyprus: frequently asked questions

How much is a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon?

Two Latchi operators list €25 for adults and €15 for children in 2026. The child age limit is under 12 on one and under 11 on the other.

Where do the boats leave from?

From Latchi. Trips advertised from Paphos include a hotel shuttle to Latchi, so the whole excursion takes about 6 hours.

Do I need to reserve?

One operator recommends booking in advance. There is no published reservation rule for the lagoon itself.

Can I drive to the Blue Lagoon in a rental car?

Road access in the Akamas is restricted in places, and at least one rental company excludes the lagoon area in its terms. Check your contract and the forest road notices. A boat trip avoids the question.

Is the Avakas Gorge open?

The hiking trail has been closed since 6 December 2025 until further notice.

What if the sea is rough?

Operators cancel in rough water. Ask about conditions before a long drive.
